The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships support doctoral candidates who exhibit excellence in academics, research, and leadership. Applicants must be nominated by a Canadian institution with a Vanier CGS quota and are expected to begin or continue full-time PhD studies in Canada. Eligibility Criteria
- Must be nominated by a Canadian institution with a Vanier CGS quota
- Enrolled in or applying to a full-time doctoral program in Canada
- Must not have completed more than 20 months of PhD studies as of May 1, 2026
- Demonstrated academic excellence, research potential, and leadership ability
- Open to all nationalities
- English or French language proficiency as per host university requirements

Application Process
- Choose a Canadian university with Vanier CGS quota
- Contact the university’s graduate studies office and seek nomination
- Prepare application on Research Net including:
- Academic transcripts
- Canadian Common CV (CCV)
- Research proposal
- Leadership and personal statements
- Two letters of reference
- Letters from nominating institution
- Institutional deadline: Between July and September 2025 (varies)
- National submission deadline: October 30, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. ET
- Results announced: April 2026
- Program begins: Fall 2026 (usually September)
