Eligibility Criteria
- Citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom
- Applying to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses at the University of Cambridge:
- PhD (full-time or part-time)
- MLitt (full-time)
- One-year postgraduate course (full-time)
- Applicants must demonstrate:
- Academic excellence
- Leadership potential
- A commitment to improving the lives of others
- A good fit between the applicant’s qualifications and aspirations and the postgraduate program at Cambridge

Application Process
- Apply for Admission and Funding:
- Submit an application for admission and funding (including Gates Cambridge) via the University’s Graduate Application Portal.
- Gates Cambridge Statement:
- In the application form, provide a statement (up to 3,000 characters) explaining why you are applying for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship and how you meet the four main criteria.
- Research Proposal:
- PhD applicants only: submit a research proposal as part of the application.
- References:
- Provide two academic references for admission.
- Submit a third reference specifically for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, focusing on how you meet the scholarship’s criteria.
- Interview:
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a 25-30 minute interview, which can be conducted in person or virtually.
