The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC) is an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). Operating within the framework of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP), the CSC aims to support sustainable development by providing scholarships and fellowships to individuals from Commonwealth countries. Since 1960, over 31,000 people have taken up Commonwealth Scholarships, contributing to the development of their home countries.

The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships are designed for candidates from low and middle-income Commonwealth countries who would not otherwise be able to study in the UK. Funded by the UK FCDO, these scholarships enable talented individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development. The program is offered under six development themes: Science and Technology for Development, Strengthening Health Systems and Capacity, Promoting Global Prosperity, Strengthening Global Peace, Security and Governance, Strengthening Resilience and Response to Crises, and Access, Inclusion and Opportunity.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a citizen or have refugee status in an eligible Commonwealth country.
  • Hold a first degree at upper second class (2:1) level, or a second-class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • Unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.
  • Not have studied or worked for one year or more in a high-income country.
  • Must return to home country within one month of the end of the scholarship.

Application Process

  • Apply through a national nominating agency or selected non-governmental organisations.
  • Complete the online application via the CSC application system.
  • Upload required documents, including proof of citizenship, academic transcripts, and references.
  • Nominators will submit nominations to the CSC by December 2024.
  • Applicants will be informed of the outcome by July 2025.
